Are you KIDDING me? Plus, to be in the Hollywood bowl along with Mr. Hefner and his Rabbits (what WHAT?) Man, it was an all-star FREAK OUT for me and a HECK of a way to get introduced to the world.
The three selections came from a studio album, that Maynard made without his road band, only studio heavies called “Hollywood”. That decision BTW, led to his leaving Columbia. Maynard asked us all to come up with expanded versions of the album charts that we could play on the road. THAT was quite an education! Using the original scores, Chris Braymen, Denis DiBlasio and myself converted the pieces and adapted them to what we were doing. BIG fun! Here’s who did what:
1. “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” adapted by Denis DiBlasio
2. Portuguese Love” adapted by Steve Wiest
3. “Hollywood” (at the end as a bonus after the credits) adapted by Chris Braymen.
