I am currently playing a getzen 300 which i believe is a student model horn. I like the sound i get on the horn but wonder if i should upgrade to something more ‘professional’ to help gain the higher registr. I have seen the getzen eterna recommended and wonder if that would be a good upgrade from a 300.
I am a comeback player and sold my 300 a few months ago. It was a really good horn with a solid upper register. If you want to upgrade, upgrade. But don’t expect another horn to let you do what you can’t currently do. That said, my Benge makes it a little easier, but I don’t have notes that I didn’t already own. Higher notes shouldn’t be a contributing factor for changing horns…..IMHO.
Thank DM.. Yes i was recommended a Benge by a nother player who also said they are wonderful horns for big band and there are many available on the used market. I also heard another wonderful player recently who I discovered uses a vintage Benge, he had an incredible range and endurance. I will keep a look out!
